The objective of this project was to activate a short story using typographic designs to convey its attitude. Based on Italo Calvino's "The Light Years" from his short story collection "Cosmicomics," the individual signs are designed to allow the reader to experience the story from the protagonist's point of view as he narrates his ongoing tension over guilt.

Using Baskerville as the main typeface, every sign is designed with close attention to letterform detail in order to be more playful. Most of these signs are translated via an entire page with some interacting closely with the canvas.

In some instances, singular signs occupy an entire spread as opposed to an entire page. Overall typographic design practices include nuanced word placement, typestyle utilization and size variation as a means of translating the desired expressive sign.
